Questions

How the questions are made

Every Forks question is one sentence with one dilemma and three choices. A dilemma comes from one of seven areas of life found in every culture. They are drawn from the anthropological concept of human universals: the idea that some features of human life recur across all societies. Each question also involves someone: yourself, a parent, a child, other family, a partner, a friend, a stranger, your community, or what you believe in.

Designing the questions together

To get started, we have written 63 questions: one for each of the seven areas of life, meeting each of the nine people in it. They are a starting point, not a finished set.

We invite facilitators to design with us. You know the real situations that matter to the people in your room, in your own place and culture. When you plan a session, you can use a question as it is, reword it for your group, or write one of your own. The questions you bring are how the set grows, and we hope they become the start of a community of facilitators who share ideas and learn from each other's rooms.
